Trail Map
The 2-mile trip on the Sandy Ridge Trail will take you through the pristine wetland areas of the Sandy Ridge Reservation. This crushed stone loop trail tops the dikes surrounding this preserve. An observation mound allows you to view the marsh from above, and benches on the top provide a scenic place to rest.
Please Note: Pets and bicycles are not allowed on the Wet Woods and Marsh Loop Trails due to these areas being more “nature preserve” than “park.” Fishing is prohibited at Sandy Ridge Reservation.
Length: 2-Mile Loop Trail
Surfaces: Crushed Stone
Features & History
Sandy Ridge opened to the public in 1999. While the area was originally a wetland (hydric soils and vegetation types are evidence of this) it had been drained and used as farmland for many years. Then, after sitting fallow for several years again after that (during which time it began to revert to a wetland) it was purchased by Lorain County Metro Parks in 1990.
